YAC Organizational Breakfast
MINUTES OF THE BREAKFAST ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
Thank you Sarah for facilitating and Mrs. Johnson for inspiring our planning with the Rock Story!
YAC Field Guide: A special gift from YAC Home facilitators to freshmen. Original idea of Zainab'12. Thank you Zainab for your time and care! Thank you to Sarah and Josh for helping type teachers corrections and additions as they come! Thank you to Aamina, Christi, William, and Rose for helping Zainab too. We still have not received all the teachers’ corrections and/or additions. I will follow-up with them Monday. I have the corrected pages sent by Josh. I have not received the corrected pages from Sarah. I will help correct the ones that came to my office yesterday. (Mr. Riley and Dr. Ramsey, Dr. Hubble) After we make all the corrections, the guide will be revised by pertinent administratos and communication department for final revisions and suggestions for "green delivery."
YAC Website: Great start Aamina! Thank you to Josh for volunteering to help Aamina. The next step is to get together with Mrs. Waters, Mr. Toskov, and Miss Mitcham. to transform a PP into a working website.
YAC Facebook: Great job Sarah! We need to encourage YAC facilitators of Home Groups and YAC members to sign-up. Contact Miss. Mitcham, Communications Coordinator | Cheerleading Director, Casady School, mitchamj@casady.org, 405-749-3112, direct
214-783-7777, cell
YAC Fall Fest: Thank you to the people who signed-up. Fall Fest will be October 9th. William wants to share the booth with Project Ignition Fundraiser. William received $1,000 grant from State Farm to promote teen driver safety in OKC schools. Vincent decided to sell Japanese drinks for $2.50. Sarah decided to continue with the Pie a YAC Member Fundraiser. Other ongoing fundraising ideas discussed were: Sell cokes, Asian candy, and doughnuts
YAC Home Groups: Thank you guys for a thoughtful meeting! Sarah and Rose created a caring way to get the freshmen to pick home groups. YAC members who wished to be facilitators signed up to lead a home group of freshmen interested in the same SERVICE ROCK. Ally asked facilitators to provide a description of their SERVICE ROCK by Sept 1,E-Day when freshmen will be called to Fee during Block A to hear about home group possibilities. The service-learning office will provide a Japanese snack for all attendees.
Brainstormed home groups:
Vincent (Musicians Inc. Musicians for the Elderly, Musician for Children),
Rose (Undecided with a Random Acts of Kindness Plan-Asia Club), Sasha (Special Care-Children with Dissabilities),
DJ and Ally (? Project),
Braeden and Katie (Elderly),
Caitlin (Native American Stories for Casady and Boys and Girls Club),
Zainab and Aamina (Respect Diversity Art Project-Hospital Work), Rachael (Zoo),
Gabby (Pets),
Josh (NAIS Challenge 20/20: Environmental projects in collaboration with an international school),
Deric (Peru Project).
Johnesha (Peace Jam).
Home group facilitators should send personal goals for their home group and a picture for Zainab to create a PP for the September 1 REQUIRED meeting at FEE for new students and freshmen during Block A. SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED TO ATTENDEES AS THEY LEAVE FEE! We also need to discuss where the home group meetings should be. We need 8-10 locations. Could we have a meeting this weekend to work on this and do the final corrections to the field guide.
Service-Learning Fridays: I received the preliminary schedule of the freshmen study halls and there are many who do not have Study Halls. We need to get those freshmen to sign-up and we need to discuss how. Zainab brought a very good point at the meeting. She did not have a Study Hall at the Library and she really did not know what was going on until she interacted with YAC members who inspired her to belong. Last year, we called the freshmen who did not have study halls to complete profiles and they decided where they wanted to serve during ONE Activities Period. We accomplished it, but ...we need to do better this year!
Calendar Updates: If you had time to see the suggested calendars, you have now realized that we meet on E-Days, Block A. I went to a Calendar meeting and we have two choices of location for YAC meetings: The service-learning office (which I hope will be decorated and re-organized by YAC members soon) and Harper Conference Center. My suggestion is: Tuesday Breakfast meetings at the office. (You have to decide how many breakfast meeting are really needed) and regular YAC meetings at Harper. Home Group Meetings will take place at locations desired by home group facilitators. Home Group facilitators will have to check with teachers and Miss Infantino to have their location approved. Home Group facilitators will also have to provide the teachers whose rooms they will be using with a calendar of meeting times and names of students who will be in their classrooms. Home Room Classrooms will have to be left in the condition they were found. All this could be discussed at the first breakfast meeting on Sept 1 so all home group facilitators will go to their first meeting with organized expectations. I will contact all the facilitators who signed-up to lead the home group meetings today and tomorrow of by phone during the weekend. If you all decide to have Sunday tea time or dinner YAC meetings, we need to place them in the calendar whether they are at the Student Center or a private home. ONLY ONE LUNCH MEETING PER TRIMESTER!!!! YAC speakers could come at that time or at chapel time!!!!
Recruitment of new YAC members, YAC Open House and other suggested itmes: Tabled for next Tuesday Breakfast meeting, September 7
